I love Klezmer music (the traditional Jewish music that began in Europe during the medieval times) and no one keeps it alive more than The Klezmer Conservatory Band. I was turned on to this album as a college freshman and have enjoyed it ever since. The song 'Rumenye, Rumenye' is my absolute favorite and it always impresses Dani when I request he sing it at Sammy's Roumanian Steakhouse (a previous pick). Their songs may be familiar to you if you listen to Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, or even at a traditional Jewish wedding, or bar mitzvah where they very well could have been playing for hire. They're not just in it for the big checks though, they run education services and a non profit organization to support Klezmer performance and research. This is timeless music (with a stunning, timeless album cover to match).
But what do you think?
