There are some things you like the idea of, but just can't get into in practice. I don't know if I just wasn't ready, if the music was too inaccessible or if it was his silly kin that are always mucking about, but Frank Zappa was always one of those things … until a few days ago. Jim and I watched a portion of 200 Motels (talk about inaccessible) and I really wanted to hear the song “Mystery Roach” performed in the movie by the Mothers of Invention (see style icon).
Jim said if I liked that maybe I would like some of the songs off Hot Rats (which by the way has the greatest cover). When Willie the Pimp was played I was sold. What an awesome, stimulating rock anthem with great vocals by Captain Beefheart.
But what do you think?
