I know, there's lots of Alice Cooper in Brix Picks. I'm a faithful lover of Love It To Death, but the concept album Welcome to My Nightmare comes in at close second. With bizzaro songs like the carnival like and schizophrenic Years Ago; the Vincent Price-introduced tale of spiders taking over the world Black Widow; the vaudevillian Some Folks; and the psycho killer rockout/ballad Steven, who couldn't be a fan?
The album takes you through the damaged psyche of Steven, a man/boy obsessed with death and nightmares who commits some kind of murder or another throughout the album. It's all very halloweeny and, despite sounding desperately grim, it's all in good demented fun. Just like his dynamic stage shows.
This was Cooper's first solo endeavor and its success catapulted him to new heights of fame with its definitive departure from what he had done before.
But what do you think?
