This Nobel prize winning novel is a great companion piece to Flesh and Blood to get you into the decay and darkness of the late medieval times. This is the story of the king's Dwarf, Piccoline, an evil and hateful man whose terrible traits exist in all of us.
Lagerkvist uses the narrator as a symbol of hatred and violence and what it can do to men. Not very light reading, admittedly, but it is a slender novel that stays with you long after you've read it.
But what do you think?
