The magical and enchanting stories in The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales have been loved and read to young children for nearly two centuries. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel are all included in this collection.
These tales are not just for children however. Unlike the cheerful Americanized versions, the original stories are often dark and brooding with much more violence than you would expect.
The brothers themselves were linguists and they began collecting traditional folk tales while studying speech patterns of the German people. They published both their findings and the stories they were told and, ironically, the stories, which were just a by-product of their work, made them famous.
But what do you think?
