Emperor of the World

After a successful stint as an R&B king, most notably as the performer of the hit “Mother in Law“, Ernie K-Doe hit a rough patch he dubbed an “alcohol haze” that lasted a couple decades.

Rather than giving up, though he came back, with better hair than ever, a flamboyant enthusiasm for himself and New Orleans, a new self proclaimed nick name: “The Emperor of the World”, a hopping music venue called The Mother In Law Lounge, and a posthumous faux run for Mayor headed by his loving wife.

A true original and eccentric, his cape wearing, entertaining antics made him a symbol of New Orleans. When his lounge was severely damaged after Katrina, the Hands on Network came in to help it reopen in 2008.

Laughs »Stalking Cat

stalking catWhen I get an email from my friend Brandon that says “you just need to see this” I know it's going to be good. And this is.

Stalking Cat explains:
“My name is Dennis Avner and my Indian name is Stalking Cat AKA Cat, Tiger, Tiger man Cat man and others not known to me.

I am Huron and Lakota and in following a very old Huron Tradition I am transforming myself into my totem, a tiger.

I have been featured on Ripley's, Larry King Live, German TV, UK TV and Japanese TV. As well as others I am not sure of.

Please keep in mind I am a professional and I need to make a living like everyone else. I can not afford to do your gig at my own expense as I am often requested.”

Obviously the guy isn't given this away for free, which is a shame because he would fit in perfectly at the Ren Fair, though I doubt the Fair has a budget?German TV.

Laughs »Hoogie Boogie Land

hoogie boogie landI might not be giving enough credit to the idiots in other countries, but I believe that terrible, drunken jam rocking by a dude wearing a cat in the hat hat is uniquely American.

Hoogie Boogie Land, though initially familiar in terms of the great American drunk jamming tradition, is like nothing else. You will gape in wonder. No one could try to be this bad. No one.

If you don't find it amazing the first go round, it will hit you on the tenth viewing, because I promise, you will be somehow compelled to watch again and again.

So spark it up, Sparky!
