Sunset and Sawdust, a gritty, depression era pulpy country noir is a great quick read. Sunset is a local gal with a brutish husband whom she kills one day and ends up taking over his job as constable. A murder mystery with a homme fatale and other oddball and scary characters unfolds in the dusty vivid landscape of East Texas.
Joe R. Lansdale is a skilled storyteller and this is the best of the two of his books I've read (The Bottoms is the other and it is worth a look too). I will be picking up some more genre bending novels from him in the future.
But what do you think?
