I really can't believe that any girl that grew up with me did not feel the power of Cyndi Lauper. She was cool, funny, odd, hip, daring, witty, talented, stylish, outspoken, unique… she was everything I decided an ideal woman could be with asymmetrical hair and layered vintage dresses. I was a punk for Halloween for years in kindergarten and elementary school because of her.
Her best album, She's So Unusual, plays like a greatest hits compilation with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, She-Bop, Time After Time, and All Through The Night. It was, in fact, the first US album to have four top five singles from one album.
This album makes me feel lucky I grew up when I did, and to have had Cyndi to look up to.
