One of New York's true heroes died April 25. Jacobs almost single handedly saved downtown as the chairman of the Joint Committee to Stop the Lower Manhattan Expressway in the 1960s. She was a crusader for big cities as communities in her most famous book The Death and Life of Great American Cities. Her influence is deeply felt in the city and greatly appreciated. Curbed and Flickr are hosting a contest in her honor.
But what do you think?
