The sand dunes are one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen and to my dismay I have only managed to make the trip once many years ago. I was in sixth grade and, despite the inherent barrenness of the dunes, the place was wildly romantic to me.
Of course, at that age so was the lead singer of House of Pain and the movie Singles so my bar was not raised particularly high. There are several nature trials but the most rewarding is a hike to the summit of the dunes. I remember this being rather grueling – around two hours, but the view is rewarding and memorable.
