Card's most famous novel and for good reason–and it's not nearly as light hearted as the new cover suggests. Glad to see whoever was doing graphics for Double Dare got a job at Tor. Honestly, I purchased this book used, expecting the classic familiar cover, but ended up with this and subsequent mild embarrassment on subways, but that's nothing new.
Anyway, about the book: it introduces us to a world riddled with fear and paranoia where young children are trained to be killers (and kill they do) in order to ward off the “buggers” who nearly obliterated the human race once before. Ender is the sympathetic hero, chosen to defeat the enemy at great risk and harm to himself and his humanity.
It won both the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award and rumor says a movie version will be out next year directed by Outbreak and Poseidon maestro, Wolfgang Petersen, so I'm not really keeping my hopes high on that one.
But what do you think?
