Excitedly prompted by my interest in this week's song, I Know You Rider, Jim quickly downloaded the first disc of Dick's Picks Volume 8, the acoustic set of their 1970 Harpur College concert. Those Binghamton kids were so lucky.
On this exceptional album, the Dead perform most of my familiar favorites including Don't Ease Me In and Friend Of The Devil and they introduced me to some new favorites like Dire Wolf, Uncle John's Band, Candyman, and Black Peter.
It's a big week for me, letting myself get really into things I've had aversions to in the past: spaghetti westerns, live Grateful Dead sets, what's next? A serious appreciation for Good Charlotte or Blues Traveler? Let's hope not.
