There are ladies on my list who were born devastatingly gorgeous and have good style (whether of their own accord or through the assistance of stylists and costumers) but Diana Vreeland made style happen! With a jotted down note to her Vogue staff, hemlines could be raised, pearls could be praised.
Here's what I said then (Mar. 27 – April 2):
I could hardly read D.V. and not think of Diana Vreeland as my style icon. She practically defines style icon. Just look at that room. One of my favorite principles of hers is this: “too much good taste can be boring.” Amen to that.
