Spend a Couple Minutes »Yummy Keychains

from Kid Robot

I have a thing for cute, smiling food with googly eyes, so I can’t resist Kid Robots’ Yummy key chains.

I love that your purchase is random and you don’t know which one you’ve gotten til the box is open (even if I have gotten the blue muffin three times!).

Which kind of leads me to my only complaint – short life spans. I’ve gotten so many of these key chains because they either break, fall off or otherwise corrode with wear.

The adorable cake key topper pictured, for example? Already fallen off the chain twice.

Yet, it’s a cycle, and the fact that they do die leads me to eagerly go in search of its replacement. So I’ll keep buying them as long as they make them.

Spend a Couple Minutes »Draw Something

20120315-230601.jpgApp

Welcome to my latest dumb obsession, Draw Something. Sure, like all game apps I’ve recommended here, I’ll tire of this Pictionary-esque game in the not too distant future but for now draw some is awe some.

(Oh, and for the record, just writing the word is cheating and beside the point and I end games with such swindlers.)

Spend a Couple Minutes »Caribou Baby Turns One

272 Driggs Ave

It’s been one whole year since friends, neighbors and all around greats Adriane and Greg opened Caribou Baby!

In that time it’s become an invaluable resource for local moms.

We are big fans.

Stop by this weekend to say congrats!

We dropped by today to get Van bigger shoes (the kid’s got gigantic feet) and tried them out on the dance for at the WNNS Beach Ball party at Warsaw where Greg was spinning. (Hence photo of Van doing his signature squat dance).

Spend a Couple Minutes »Pick Your Oscar Dress

Leave Your Dress as a Comment

It’s that time again – to watch the red carpet, scoff through the introductory song (anyone recall the damning performance by Snow White and Rob Lowe or the embarrassing rework of Hey Yeah?)

Its also time to pick our dresses and before Paris Fashion weeks even begun (no fair).

I’m going off kilter and choosing a dynamic, quirky gown from visionary Mary Katrantzou. Add a structured top knot and Rodarte clunky heels to top it off and I’d be set.

What about you? What’s your fantasy Oscar dress? Tell us!

They have over 40,000 menus from the 1840?s on and you, yes you, can help by transcribing dishes in your spare time all while discovering dishes like Consomme Madrilene Frappee and Cream Fritters Au Sabayon.

The menu covers are also great to browse.

Spend a Couple Minutes »Pick Your Golden Globes Dress

Link to Your Dress in the Comments

Sure, it’s just the stupid Golden Globes, but choosing a dress is still fun.

Was thinking something young and short and the first look that popped in my head was Louis Vuitton’s iceprincess mini from Spring. Yes, with a little beehive this will do just fine.

Spend a Couple Minutes »Greenpoint Toy Center

736 Manhattan Ave. Brooklyn

Forget those big box stores!

If you are in need of a last minute gift or stocking stuffer for a child, we have one of the best mom and pop toy shops around: The Greenpoint Toy Center.

The friendly spot is overflowing with fun stuff and makes me feel the wonder and excitement I used to as a little kid.

Spend a Couple Minutes »Bergdorf Goodman Windows

“Carnival of the Animals”

Since I go during the day, I can never get great photos of the stunning Bergdorf Goodman windows (which are always the best of the season).

Other, wiser people got some great shots at night which you can easily find online (just try flickr or instagram). Image posted is from Bergdorf’s own site.

Really though, nothing beats seeing these detailed, whimsical pieces of art in person.

If your visiting or a local be sure to pay a visit before they are taken down. They’ll take your breath away.

Spend a Couple Minutes »Paul McCarthy: The Dwarves, The Forest

Hauser & Wirth New York32 East 69th Street (Ends Tomorrow)

Normally I’d see a show before recommending it, but I am so sure the Snow White gone awry Paul McCarthy exhibit, The Dwarves, The Forest at Hauser & Wirth will be great, I have no qualms listing it sight unseen.

More importantly, it ends tomorrow, so I wanted to give fans a heads up!

Spend a Couple Minutes »Babylegs

Leg Warmers for Tots

Babylegs are one of those things that I didn’t even know existed a short time ago and now can’t live without.

I mean, who knew that babies need leg warmers?

Pants legs ride up, most especially if you’re using a carrier and sock slip down, exposing their tiny calves to the cold.

Clearly the makers of Babylegs understood and came across this problem themselves because their cozy warmers are the perfect solution.

A great gift for parents in chilly climates.

Spend a Couple Minutes,Web Sites »Instagram

Awesome App

Like Twitter it took me a while to “get” Instagram (and not just me judging by how many friends have posted one or no photos).

Not only does it have it’s own language, the purpose is individual.

I’ve found that it’s a lovely way to document the days. Like a visual journal. Glimpsing others’ lives is also fun.

Sure, it’s strange at first to share images with the public, but unless you put effort into getting followers you won’t have too many looking anyways.

The filters are great and the coolest part is that you apply them after the photo is taken and get previews before applying them.

It takes some of the surprise of say a Polaroid or even the Hipstamatic away but at the same time you won’t lose a great photo to a bad filter.

If you want to get started with a few good people to follow let me recommend:

Manrepeller – style shots with lots of rad jewelry

Freepeople – serious office envy

Cocorocha – super model life

Davidlebovitz – Paris food awesomeness

Miwaramone – dreamy shots of food and more from Japan

Refinery29 – one of my favorite sites with a great feed. Recent Bangkok photos amazed

And of course me! Bhague

A few of my photos and ones from the people listed above are below.

Spend a Couple Minutes »Natural History at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

20111012-121811.jpgby Patrick Dougherty

Sometimes we forget what great, beautiful resources we have for outdoor fun in the city. I hadn’t been to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in some time but enjoyed the surprisingly gorgeous weather introducing Van to koi, grass (which he’s still skeptical of) and roses.

I also really loved the Natural History sculptures by Patrick Dougherty. They feel both natural and otherworldly. Wish we had one of these stick huts to hang out in all the time.

Spend a Couple Minutes »Yuzu-It

20110930-120520.jpgYamajirushi Brand

Thought I new all that I was reasonably expected to about hot sauce but then I discovered Yuzu-It at Midoriya.

Citrus and spicy and such a new taste explosion. I am psyched!!

Can’t wait to try it on eggs, right? It’s a bit pricy (7 dollars for a 5 ounce bottle) but well worth it.
