As if the amazing Li Edelkoort wasn't enough at a recent lecture, her guest speaker was Barbara Hulanicki, the co-founder of the unmeasaureably influential Biba stores in London. There is a book out about the company and her life and times.
Currently she still works as an interior decorator for hotels and other chic spots. I can't possibly do any of her antecdotes any justice by trying to paraphrase, but she was hilarious and witty–just like the clothes she created years ago. It's a shame she has no desire to get back into fashion an industry, describing it as “a rollercoaster you can't get off of… unless someone pushes you”. A living legend.
But what do you think?
