I initially set out to Red Hook to buy a famous Steve's Authentic Key Lime pie, even though there couldn't be a less compelling reason to try something than to say it's much loved by Al Roker. But when I learned online that a single pie as $84, I decided to pass.
I'd still like to try it someday when I just happen to have nearly a hundred bucks burning a hole in my pocket; this particular Saturday, however, I took my co-worker Joan's advice (she lives in the neighborhood) and grabbed some goodies from the adorable Baked.
Baked has actually been mentioned here before when I tried their everlasting salty sweet brownie from Dean and Deluca, but being a cupcake fan (always vanilla/vanilla) I was eager to see if they could work their magic on these cute and tastey buggers.
Could they? In a word: yes. In several words: yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yum! The cake was soft and not dry, the dollop of icing was buttery, but still light and whipped tasting. I'm surprised not more foodies have added Baked to the growing list of the city's best cupcakes.
And we walked out with a dozen of them for $21.
