Spend a Couple Minutes »Vintage Easy Riders Magazine

easyriders magazine 1978I'm not sure what I expected when I purchased a few back issues of Easyriders Magazines, but when they arrived at my office wrapped in descreet brown paper, I figured they were not safe for work.

Crude, nude, and rude, these offer a great glimpse into a truly fringe American culture. You can find vintage ones available on eBay, and keep an eye out on Rotating Corpse as I post more inspiring images.

This week: “In the Wind” Artsy Style.

It has a picture submitted by a reader and it is a tall, thin woman who is topless, wearing chaps & a cowboy hat. She is standing in front of a bike and there is a buckskin horse behind her.

It was a full page picture in an issue from approx. 1978 – 1981. I believe it was a Summer issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • From Leon on June 11, 2011 at 9:15 pm

The original Easyriders (before it sold-out to Paisano and turned into utter shit) was weirdly magnificent: it was a labour-of-love by it’s creators and the photography, design, and graphics were superlatively excellent. Even most of the writing, including from the motorcycle-gang submitters, was astonishingly intelligent and almost always hilariously funny. The nearest thing to the original Easyriders that there has been since it became nothing more than glossy, badly printed lavatory paper and wormfarm food (and subjecting any Paisano publication to any animal must surely constitute a grossly inhuman act of cruelty) is the Australian “Bikie” magazines which are very rough imitations of the original Easyriders.

I started reading “easy” around ’72. Two wives, four kids, 8 grand-kids,mortgages,trouble with the law……….. I’ve lost track.I loved the mag, don’t know why I stopped reading………
I remember ( I’m Canadian), walking down Queen St., in Toronto in ’79 going to Filmores (a peeler club) and was picked up by Toronto’s finest, you know long hair, beard, grubby, leather vest,no gas, a few blocks from home, bad part of town, fit the description of a guy that did a robbery in the neighbourhood the day before. I had one of my saddle bags over my shoulder and that’s why I was grabbed. Back at the station they found an E.R., in my pack and decided it was an underground puplication.( the fact I was carrying _ope didn’t help)This was 3:am, 1981 and I was held till noon the next day, till they decided that I wasn’t a “national” threat. The long and short is, after they phoned E.R., head office, they decided I wasn’t a threat, and to be nice charged me with poccession, (under an ounce) instead of traffiking.A few years later wife, kids, sell the bike………………………….NOW, I’m looking back and have come to the conclussion, my bike was worth more than what I got(except for the kids)..!!!! RHDF..but don’t forget the kids

Still looking for the story and accompanying art for the Angel Story. It was a Story about a Couple who were riding, they got into an accident, man was blinded and his lady although injured, she acted as his eyes. They got to town and then he found out that she was dead, had been for sometime.

The picture was pretty awesome, the Man was on the scooter, had a bloody blindfold, the Lady was behind him pointing the way I think, she had wings and this beautiful loving smile. They were in a desert I think it was. This was mid to late 70’s maybe, but it made an impression on me in my teens. wen I read the old article in during the 80’s, it is also a favorite of my long time biker uncle.
