TV Shows »Public Access Television

public accessThank goodness for Public Access! I'm sure everyone has their favorite local gems; I watched a whole lot in college in RI. Specifically, a stupid show about morons and backyard wrestling (totally pre-jackass and current reality TV trends) called Travis Savage, and the unbelievable Daphne's Madhouse: a crazy Star Trek themed show where Daphne and her long haired friend always got prank called. Daphne's husband had a Kiss themed show but its name escapes me.

See, these two shows have zero information online. I was really hoping for a youtube clip from Daphne's but no dice. Those of you who've experienced its genius will just have to reminisce with me–and those who never saw it will just have to trust us.

Oh! And remember that creepy guy who used sexy stripper silhouettes to transition every scene in his talk show (which he wore a Star Trek uniform for)? Man, Providence was the place to be for Public Access in the late 90s. Today such shows are given world wide attention through youtube. Just view this weeks laugh…

Hi, found your site by searching for info on Daphne’s Madhouse, which I agree with you was pure genius. Were you ever able to dig up any clips on it?

Alas, I have not – great to find another fan though!

Did you watch “Star Trek the Unofficial Fan Club Show”?

That was my ABSOLUTE favorite. I loved how half the time they wouldn’t bother checking the audio and you had to blast your tv in order to hear them above the static. They had a HUGE rivalry with Daphne for a bit and then they resolved their issues off camera, sadly enough for those of us who couldn’t get enough of the bad tv drama.

There was another, related spinoff from that show that had sketches and was actually kind of funny. They had a Voyager parody set in a 1999 Grand Voyager called “Voyager 1999” that I remember.

Wait, here’s a chance that Cox still has the tapes in storage. Oh damn.

Ben… That would be Federation Forum and the Worst of Public Access TV. We produced it from 1995-1997. I believe one of the Voyager skits is on YouTube (see the link…)

I will have to check out this Federation Forum!

When I first moved to Providence in mid-90s and saw Daphne’s Madhouse, I recorded a few shows because it was to good to be true. I have to find those VHS tapes somewhere. They were just too early for the web. Now, that show would be all over the web.

Daphne, kiss guy (who was goofed on in Family Guy) and def Federation Forum…..like a rolling stooooooooooone. I started my wrestling career 20 years ago in one of those backyard shows…Power League Wrestling (now a great charity organization) and I know Travis…tho i havent seen him in years. Someone pleeeeeease bust out the old vhs and put this stuff up on you tube or something. Skeldon u rule. I think we met once at a PLW show. You did some in ring thing for your show i believe. Peace all and thx for this.

    Wow,

This is Deano, I used to be on the show with Daphne towards the end of its run. I was board and I decided to do a search for Daphne’s Madhouse. I was surprised to actually find something.

I was invited to be Daphne’s co-host after I met both her and her husband (Ed) at a tavern called Surkonts (Its now called KC’s Tap). I thought it would be fun and thus I was on the show.

Unfortunatly, I did not keep in touch with them after the show ended. I wish I knew where they were I would love to have a reunion of some sort.
