After a whole lot of drama from this wackamaroll, including her now famous, though still daring, exclamation to toddlers (I assume) at the MTV music awards “Dress yourselves!!”; her ernest plea to stop the killing of turkeys on Thanksgiving; to her general craziness, the world was just a little less quiet and interesting when she decided to get out of the spotlight.
I always liked her music well enough, but after becoming such a silly spectacle, I don't think anyone assumed her comeback would be so sophisticated, lovely, complex and impressive. Extraordinary Machine deserved its spot on all the top lists it made last year.
Of course, there was plenty of drama in the production of this long awaited album, but all the turmoil was worth it. Tymps (The Sick In The Head Song), Extraordinary Machine, and Not About Love (the video features Brix Picks hunk Zach Galifianakis) are probably my favorites, but the entire album is a pleasure to listen to and a great showcase for her voice.
