A very unique, moving, and strange little movie. I love all of Miranda July's work that I have experienced so far and this is no exception. Surprisingly it is a more frank and genuine piece about sex and how it is perceived than almost any other American film I have seen. I nearly cried in some moments of simple observation.
July is not afraid to be a truly female artist, with emotions, tenderness, and feeling. Make sure to check out her website (and previous bricks pick) Learning To Love You More.

I Woke Up In Love This Morning
Even though dieters are upset about it, this upbeat and heartfelt love cry is a song that never fails to make me smile. Even better than the more famous I Think I Love You.

Hunks of the week
Syd Barrett
The Pink Floyd Legends was the most if not the only truly touching VH1 show made. The members of the band truly missed and lamented the loss of their friend the visionary Syd Barett – to insanity. Barrett continues to influence and still stands as one of the most handsome men of rock and roll.

Mary Woronov
A staggering, larger than life fox with one hell of a life story. From one of Warhol's Chelsea Girls, to B-movie icon, to Paul Bartel muse, to painter, to writer, Woronov has experienced a life most could envy and purrs in a husky voice that rivals even Kathleen Turner.

Desserts of the week
Cafe Sabarsky
Located in the Neue Galerie which is now hosting a Klee show, this scrumptious Viennese cafe has some tantalizing dessert choices. Doug and I opted for a white chocolate mousse torte with citrus fruit. It was dense, decadent, and perfectly balanced, no flavor was too overbearing.
A perfect spot for a quick dessert and coffee during a museum day. Tip – if the line is long, the downstairs cafe has the same menu and not as many people know about it.

Walking
ow that the weather is better, nothing is more gratifying to me than a city walk. I usually walk from midtown to downtown and if it so strikes me, right across the Williamsburg bridge and then home.
There is always so much happening in New York which makes it easy to forget that walking is actually exercise.

Wildwoods,
While Wildwoods has become a bit trashier that it was in it's 1950's heyday, Jim and I enjoyed our second anniversary at the Holly Beach B&B which boasts one of the biggest jacuzzi tubs I have ever seen let alone been in.
We enjoyed local seafood and hoagies, long walks along the soft sandy beaches and a quick drive down to the quaint gingerbread house lined streets of Wildwoods “got her life together and thinks she so great' older sister city Cape May.

Swan’s Crossing
I don't usually like to recommend things that can't be found, but this is more than a recommendation – it is a plea. If anyone knows how to get ahold of this amazing, dramatic, teen soap opera please let me know!! I used to know a guy that had every episode – and do you know what he did with them? He destroyed them before his obsession with Swan's destroyed his life. That moment is one of the only ones in my life I would go back and change – I would have saved those tapes from destruction.
Here are a few elements to this stupendous classic – a young Sarah Michelle Gellar, evil Russian scientists, forbidden love through a chink in a garden wall, and an ugly but supposed to be hot girl that lives in a submarine and so much more make this (drum roll) the BEST teen show ever.

The Neverending Story
My absolute favorite book growing up. It is much better than the movie, which I was never a huge fan of. Ende's writing and imagination are beyond compare and I have failed to read a young adult fantasy book that has affected me as much.
It has always been my dream that my dad would illustrate it one day.

Bonnie and Clyde
Effusive and bubbly, like listening to champagne on a summer night. Gainsbourg and (now insane) Bardot, probably the coolest, chicest, and sexiest of duetists have a lot of fun with campy oddities like Docteur Jekyll And Mister Hyde, and Bubble Gum, relish in the pleasure of Pauvre Lola and Comic Strip, and smolder in intriguing strangeness on the amazing title track and Un Jour Comme Un Autre.
Silliness has never been cooler.

Malcolm McLaren
McLaren's impact on music and fashion in undisputed. His resume includes manager of the New York Dolls (briefly), semi-creator of The Sex Pistols, Adam Ant and Bow Wow Wow handler, and Vivienne Westwood partner in the shops Let it Rock and SEX.

Restaurants of the week
Mercadito
What you won't find at this tapas style restaurant is leg room, quick service, or an ostensibly great deal. What you will find is truly and absolutely great, delicious food, a fun hectic atmosphere, and my drink of the week – the Chelada. The pepino spicy margarita is also worth stopping by for.

Chelada
Mike and I took a great risk with this unusual beverage at Mercadito – and with great risk comes great reward. Much like a bloody mary only carbonated, a Chelada mixes lime juice, tabasco, Worcestershire sauce and beer.
Luckily I found out about it just in time for the Cinco de Mayo parties and warmer weather. Another plus is that since it is such a strong flavor, one drink lasts longer than most.

Christies
Another site I can browse for hours. Did you know that you can look at every piece coming up for auction with their “Lot Finder” section. My favorite are always the contemporary and modern print auctions, but a pretty spectacular photo show is coming up with photos by among others: Robert Mapplethorpe, Cindy Sherman, Irving Penn, William Eggleston, and Sarah Jones (pictured). Great for research, inspiration, and entertainment.
